You know eating crabs it is one of the greatest traditions of summers spent outside with a dozen friends all around a long newspaper lined table down by the Chesapeake Bay.

Unlike some foods, the nostalgia and joy of a crab feast does not come from the work done inside the kitchen.

The joy is at the table with your friends and family surrounded by mounds of piping hot crabs, corn, coleslaw, and maybe even a cold beer.

The joy is selecting your guy– whether it is by how big he looks, the size of his claws, how heavy he feels, or how crusted he is with seasoning.

Capital Crab Company brings the CC Truck to you, cooking dozens, heck bushels, of crabs on-site so that you and your friends and mallet-toting toddlers (who could show up a non-native in a crab opening and eating contest any day) can focus on the feast.

The Capital Crab Truck can usually be found during the week parked on K Street for lunch time feasts around Capitol Hill. We also do deliveries as well as cook on-site for larger, catered events. Whatever you need, we can help.

How To Order Crabs

1. Tally the number of guests

2. Assume a number of crabs per guest

Hint: don’t hold us to it because only you know your friends, but based on our experience there are 3 types of crab eaters whose consumption levels average out to needing about 5-6 crabs per person.
Note: DON’T HOLD US TO IT BECAUSE ONLY YOU KNOW YOUR FRIENDS, BUT BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF CRAB EATERS WHOSE CONSUMPTION LEVELS AVERAGE OUT TO NEEDING ABOUT 5-6 CRABS PER PERSON

THE DINGHY: 1-2 CRABS
Shyly selects the top crab on the pile and, after 1 or 2, concludes picking crabs is too much work or too messy and is seen assembling a plate of crab cake sliders–don’t forget entrée options for The Dinghy.

THE ROW BOAT: 5-6 CRABS
Peacefully plugs away at crabs for a few hours, drinking beers and telling stories, and after taking down 5-6 crabs and, having forgotten about the other staples of the day, happily moves on to corn and coleslaw–so, don’t forget the sides for The Rowboat.

THE SPEED BOAT: 12 CRABS
Majorly makes up for The Dinghy’s lack of performance, eating crabs until the crisp brown paper is covered in seasoning, vinegar and butter stains and reduced to a pulp, and only upon noticing the pile of crabs is but a tower of shells, with equal fervor moves onto the hush puppies–again, don’t forget to order the sides for The Speed Boat.

3. Calculate the total number of crabs needed

4. Choose crab size desired

Hint: the guide below illustrates how the crab industry defines size (measured from point to point).

5. Decide whether to order by the dozen or by the bushel

Hint: a bushel is roughly 4 dozen x-large+, 5 dozen large, or 6 dozen medium.still unsure? call us!
